No one should suffer the devastating effects of this condition. In this newsletter, we highlight ways to connect with others going through TSW Syndrome, a call for TSW Syndrome research\u00a0and steps to advocate for change together.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Currently, s<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ignificant barriers to accessing an accurate TSW Syndrome diagnosis and supportive care affect the physical and mental health of TSW sufferers who reach out to ITSAN from over 50 countries. TSW Syndrome research is critical. This year, ITSAN has been building a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.itsan.org\/us\/2022\/08\/07\/press-release-from-the-international-topical-steroid-awareness-network\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TSW Syndrome Patient Registry<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> designed by researchers, medical experts and patients, to establish prevalence, advance research, develop a diagnostic profile and improve patient care. It is imperative that further research be conducted to better understand the prevalence and mechanisms of TSW. The period from 2016 to 2021 saw a 274% increase in mentions of TSWS on social media platforms. It is challenging to provide a clear description of TSWS as the concept is currently ill-defined, but a UK drug safety update has recognized distinct withdrawal reactions if higher-potency TCS are stopped after prolonged or continual use, noting erythroderma\/redness and burning worse than the original condition.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Five key points were summarized for the clinical and research community:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">High-quality research is needed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clear definitions and diagnosis criteria are a priority.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prevention will require understanding of the complex conditions that result in TSWS.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Research can raise awareness and acceptance of TSWS within the medical community.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" The majority of cases reviewed by the MHRA were associated with the use of moderate to high potency TCS.
